Women Who Know How to Cook, Know How to Fight! The Imperishable Women of the Indian History!
“If you want something said, ask a man; if you want something done, ask a woman.” —Margaret Thatcher
Women are really unfathomable in their nature. At times, they are caring and compassionate and at times they break the barriers of conventions. Let’s talk about those brave hearts today who have graciously changed the perception about women. No, not only in terms of fashion but of many ways. Some of us have known them through the pages and silver screens only while some still exist for a better cause. The woman is a symbol of patience, determination and inner power. They are the active parts of our ever-changing society. They were there in the ancient era, so are they in the modern time.
In the long line of women force, first comes Indira Gandhi, whom we have known as our first Female Prime Minister of India. She took several bold steps during her Presidential time span towards food shortage of the country and led the country into the nuclear age with its first underground detonation in 1974. While talking about the realm of politics in the Indian history, how could we not talk about Mamata Banerjee, the respected Chief Minister of West Bengal? She has gone through a huge lot of political turmoils before she rose to power and started shaping the diverse possibilities of the culture of Bengal. She has sustained a lucid lifestyle throughout her political life, dressed in simple traditional Bengali cotton sarees called ‘taant’, a cotton bag slung over her shoulder and no cosmetics or jewellry. In the history of Tamil Nadu, a woman figure is very prominent and she is late Chief Minister, Jayalalitha. She had had a rollercoaster life, rising as a talented actress and then to the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu. Kiran Bedi who is currently the Lieutenant Governor of Pondicherry, is the first woman to join the coveted Indian Police Force in 1972. She is known for her innumerable social activities and as a talented tennis player.
Konkona Sen Sharma and Susmita Sen are two such figures whose paths of life have never been smooth and easy. While the former is a renowned Bollywood actress turned marvelous director while the latter is the former Miss India and Miss Universe. Susmita Sen is the single mother of her two adopted baby girls. She is the true definition of what a strong, bold and compassionate woman is. While the world of glamour is studded by them, sports like Boxing is also made famous by the ever-resilient Mary Kom who won Bronze in the first-ever women boxing and defines that there is nothing impossible for women. Apart from these, the most distinguished figure is that of Kalpana Chawla’s who dreamt high and reached the stars. She was the first woman of Indian origin who ventured the space. At last, but not least, Barkha Dutt who is one of the most popular women TV personalities. She is a tough and resilient woman who never yields to the corruption. She was awarded Padma Shri for her relentless coverage of 2004 tsunami.
Apart from these prominent women figures, there are a million others who are still fighting and bringing changes, not only in their lives but also others. These women with indomitable spirits have never stopped in their journey of life. They might be broke at a certain time but they have found their ways to lead their lives independently with dignity and pride. From the team of KFE, we salute these women for being true inspirations and role models to every woman breathing today.
